Inspired by her personal experience with open communication between her and her father during the start of her menstrual cycle at just 12 years old, Una Nkuna conceptualised Rethusabona Foundation, an organisation dedicated to the empowerment and upliftment of women. As she grew older, Una chose to devote her teenage years to advocating for women's issues, particularly menstrual hygiene and education, driven by her passion to address the disparities she witnessed in lower-income areas like her birthplace, a small village in Giyani.
In addition to her work with Rethusabona, Una is actively involved in other organizations, serving as the youngest delegate and member of the Young Women of Africa Organisation (YWOA), a member of BRICS Youth, and the Rotary Youth Club. She also takes on various leadership responsibilities at her high school such as being a Student Representative Council Member two years running, showcasing her dedication to youth empowerment as well as her deep involvement with community service having attained 90 service hours in 2023 alone.
